Gentleman’s Magazine (London), January 1759


Letter in magazine on the Treaty of Easton:

“This day his excellency our governor returned from tbe treaty at Easton, where he had been attending with tbe governor of Pennsylvania near three weeks. There were present at the treaty 500 Indians, about 200 of whom were chief warriors, and of 13 difterent nations. There were also present two Indian messengers from the Indians settled on the Ohio, who brought a message in writing signed by 15 chiefs of the Obis Indians, expressing their desire to have peace with the English...The conferences were carried on with great harmony. The Indians solemnly promised ro return all the English prisoners. ...”
