Forbes Expedition to Fort Duquesne
Around the year 1758 William Pitt put everything he could into the French and Indian War. He was the reason General John Forbes was sent to the colonies. Forbes was able to acquire a force of sixty five hundred troops that consisted of British regulars and colonists. He was ordered to capture Fort Duqusne, and instead of using Braddock's road he would move west from Bedford through the forest. This road that Forbes created will be known as Forbes Road. Near the end of the summer, Forbes started moving forward to Fort Duquesne. The advancing part of his army reached Fort Duquesne and lost on September 21 due to a tactical error. The main body of the army was attacked by a group of French and Indians on the 12th of October at Loyal Hannon. Due to the loss at Fort Frontenac, the French commander of Fort Duquesne knew he was going to lose to the British. This is why he chooses to destroy Fort Duquesne before the British arrive. By the time of November 25 the British claimed Fort Duquesne and started building Fort Pitt on top of it.
